SELF-CURED RESINS

The incorporation of graphene into acrylic resins is a new strategy to improve their mechanical properties, simultaneously increasing both the elastic modulus and hardness, reducing the appearance of cracks and / or its diffusion, and decreasing the degree of shrinkage and polymerization.

Graphene is ideal for improving the performance of self-curing acrylic resins for candidate dental use, not only for its high tensile strength, low coefficient of thermal expansion, high absorption and lubrication capacity, flexibility and high surface area, but also for its excellent strength / weight ratio.

Acrylic resins are hard, brittle and crystalline polymers, which are used as heat-stable materials since, after curing, they cannot be processed or molded.

Self-cured resins based on polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) are the most commonly used materials in the dental laboratory. However, they have low impact strength and low transverse and flexural strength, resulting from the formation and propagation of cracks when subjected to mechanical stress.
